Hosted PBX and multi-tenant UCaaS platforms aggregate traffic from hundreds or thousands of customer endpoints across every codec, NAT type, and carrier policy you can imagine. Without an SBC enforcing policy at the edge, every one of those endpoints is a potential entry point for SIP fraud, toll abuse, and DoS traffic. Maintaining a secure network while making a VoIP call is critical. Several issues while a call is connected, like DDoS, SPIT, VOMIT, and numerous others, make confidentiality a significant concern. To safeguard the VoIP network, a firewall is required.

This threat is combated with a Session Border Controller Solution. It acts as a firewall between networks and end-user. SBC offers security measures like media and signaling encryption, making the breach of connection or data by hackers almost impossible.

Most VoIP networks span multiple carriers, vendors, and generations of SIP equipment. Each implements SIP slightly differently. Our SBCs perform SIP header manipulation, codec transcoding, and DTMF interworking so that calls between mismatched endpoints connect cleanly and stay connected.

Latency, jitter, packet loss, and codec mismatches all degrade MOS scores before a user even notices. Our SBCs enforce QoS policies, manage bandwidth per session, and apply call admission control to protect existing calls from new traffic surges.
